I haven't been around much lately due to a fail internet connexion that keeps crapping out on me. My ISP techie says my modem is fine, and the phone operator says the line is fine so now I think they have to battle it out to figure out who's taking responsibility for this shit. And I get to have Internet three days in the week only.
RL being crazy busy has also heped, of course.
*misses you guys* I feel like I'm never there anymore !

Nano Status : I made it to 5,000. That's like, 1/10 of a Nano. I don't think I can do much more this month.

Okay, here I am. I started the crack Hybrid fic. God only knows where it will take me. It's already way more serious than I ever planned this fic to be.

It is 8:36 pm.
I haven't written anything. I am seriously considering writing the stupid neko!crack GW fic plot bunny I had about a year ago. It keeps poking me.
I also spent a very productive end of afternoon yelling at Youtube being down for maintenance in the middle of me watching some tasty yaoi OVAs. I am shallow like that.

Basically, I found a second job. Still teaching ESL to adults ina rpofessional context. So that means I am no working twice the time I used to plus navigating between the two places where I work, which is eating up time. It's great, though. I love it there, met lost of new, interesting people, including a Japanese girl who I could help with her french while she helps me with my Japanese.
I'm also going to see a colleague of mine who's a Japanese trainer to keep on with my own language learning needs. Today is L-sama's birthday, so there is going to be much rejoicing (although bard-eating is right out, I don't digest bard very well).
Oh, and I signed up for Nano. I have no idea what I'm going to write, in chat language or anything. I'm drawing a blank. But I don't care. I will write if it kills me (and it probably will, I have no life right now as it is.)

... You know, I don't usually watch programs like Extreme Makeover : Home Edition. Mostly because the french Version of the program is cheesy and not very good at all. But now I have a channel that shows the real deal, and, well ...
I just saw a family of four, mom, two girls and a boy. Their house burnt down. They started to re-build using blueprints made by the son. then, the son died in a car accident. The is nurance money ran out, and the family was left with an unfinished house deteriorating on which she was paying a mortgage, a rented flat with simple mats on the floor to sleep, and a broken dream of finishing that house in memory of their lost son and brother.
those guys were ... simply amazing. They renovated and finished building the house. The boy was an organ donor, and every single kid from his school became an organ donor after his accident. The guys made a sign asking people to slow down on the site of the accident. Everyone in the community came in to help. Not only that, but everyone pitched in and paid off the mortgage. The team also found the recipient of the son's heart and introduced her to the family. The girl painted a picture for the new house as well. A local country star donated her very own piano to the little girl of the family.
It's been a while since I've been all teary-eyed in front of the television. But seeing that makes me regain some faith in humanity.

Okay, I have decided to stop being a technological retard and install Ubuntu.
I'm just downloading and burning the CD for now, because I only have one laptop, but as soon as I get my other one back, I'll use the old one as a guinea pig to get a feeling of how it works, and then I'm making the leap. I'm getting tired of Windows and all the extra crap it's always installing.
I know some of you uys already have that. Any useful tips you can give a newbie ? I've already read up on adding extras to make certain file types supported. Anything about IM in particular ? Will AIM work on Ubuntu ? Oh, and how about writing in Japanese ? Anyone knows if there's anything needed or if it's a simple switch in language settings like on Windows ?

The business that is my life is having me whipped right now.
- After a lot of chasing around, my X-Box is finally back. Fuck the UPS driver who randomly decided that my flat was a compnay and that it was closed, and then didn't come when I spent the whole day home especially for him, and then took the package for delievery again when I called to make sure it'd be there at the hub waiting for me for pick-up. Seriously, dude, learn to follow your own company regulatons.
- New Job is going swell for now, with more classes starting soon.
- Internet is crappng out on me at random intervals. Sorry, Adstri people, a technician is coming next week, hopefully to fix the problem for good this time.
- Foreign job hunt hasn't produced many results for now. I have to look for a FFL certification.
- I WANT MY LAPTOP BACK!
- And, most importantly, countdown to being an auntie is a go. My sis is due this week
**********
Add to that more congrats to E on her little one, and here's to hoping he'll be home soon with you !

Because she got me a Kumagorou plushie for my birthday. A real, official Kumagorou plushie.
That is why.

Alright, so first things first, the trip to Dublin was awesome, I will post a few pictures whenever I get the time, and I sent a handful of postcards.
By the way, Ederyn, sweetie, I didn't have your new address, so I still have yours. E-mail me, plz ? It won't be sent from Dublin, but I want to send it anyway !!!!

Then, I had my appointment at the unemployment office. They were as gloriously inefficient as I remembered, and the lady went as far as telling me that I would never find a job, in so many words.
Well, guess what ? I started answering ads. Yesterday, I called some guy for one. He told me he already had a shortlist of candidates, but that I could send him my résumé, and that I should call him back in a week.
Then, he called me this morning, and asked if I could come in for an interview this afternoon.
...
I'm starting on Monday.
****
AND ... I'm of course still looking for a job in Japan. But there's no need to stay on unemployment benefits until then.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COZZY !I am very late with your gift for technical reasons, mostly *kicks computer* But I want you to know that you are a wonderful and dear friend to me, and that I sometimes wonder how I did it before you were in my life. Michael Jackson meant a lot to me.
It was through his music that i irts came to the English language. It was through his music that I started dancing. It was through his music that I met my first english-speaking friends, and started using Y!IM. It was through his music that I first collaborated to a website, and it was through his music that I first discovered fanfiction (even though I had no idea of what it was at the time).
He was my introduction to a lot of things back when I was a teenager. I was a real fan, I had pictures, all of his song lyrics, all of the abums I could buy (still have them, actually). And while I have calmed down a bit (I'm not fifteen anymore), I'm still in shock over the news.
He was a great artist, perhaps the greatest of his generation. He was a complex person. I don't think he's ever been truly happy in his life, except maybe on stage.
The Thriller album was released the year of my birth. It still is one of my favorite albums ever. I have danced on so many of his songs over the years, I know all of them by heart.
Wherever he is now, I hope he is at peace.

*fails so hard*
Work's been picking up, which means lesshappy fun times, and modding Ads is ... actually not that time consuming, it just requires focus. And waking up early for modchats.
But ah, I finally moved my ass and got all of my medical appointments done and stuff. So I'll get my beauty spots checked, that echo done, and get my prescriptions renewed from my GP, and then all's left is the ob/gyn for my BC prescription and I'm okay for the summer !
Also, still not writing fic, but I've started rewatching Gw to put myself in the mood again. I'm taking detailed episode notes and I wrote a pre-series timeline by cross-referencing all of my sources. And I'm gonna post all of it on peacemillion for quick and easy reference. I made an episode guide memory section and tag. Just the timeline posted for now, but more will come.
I also need to find some time to do some translating for OTW and upload more of my ficcage there.
... Meh.
*goes back to playing Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion*
I know, I've finished that game several times, but I want to fulfill all of the quests and bring all of my talents to 100 and stuff ! And collect all the shiny items ! And to do it with a male and a emale of each race !

Busy busy week. Japanese finals tomorrow, dance show this weekend, lotsa classes to prepare for ...
...
And yesterday, i wen to se emy dad and his choir sing in a chapel. They were singing some contemporary psalms that were supposed to be in English, but I swear in oen of them, I kept hearing the line "Come to me fast, Lord Sauron."
I'm pretty sure it wasn't what they were saying, but it was very entertaining.

Haven't been much around lately ... not that it's news to anyone, really. My thyroid's been acting up, and my uterus too *kicks* so my sleeping schedule is shot to hell. I fall asleep during the day and can't go to bed at night, and I'm all rawr and irritable. Can't focus, and I have some translating to do for OTW, and my Japanese finals coming and ... yeah.
So yeah ... I've been following the recent things with Amazon, and stuff, and I even wrote and got the same standard bogus thing everyone got. And was rawr! and then I went to sleep, cuz tiiiired.
Why don't my ob/gyn and my endocrinologist work on the days I need to call them ?

That FFL lesson was surprisingly fun, and I was not stressed at all, which was a good thing.
Also, I made a man literally stop in his tracks and exclaim 'my god this woman is beautiful.' while on my way to work on Tuesday. That was a bit ... creepy, but it still put a saunter in my step, especially since I was wearing my super cute dress shorts.
Waiting for some blood test results, to see if I have to change my dosage or tsay like I am, but clinical signs mean I'm probably gonna have to cut pills in half ... and that's th good news. A friend's mom told me it took her ten years to get things stabilized. *sniff*
Oh, and I also blew some money on a new summer dress and some summer shoes. I swear I'm truning into a girl.
*****
I was almost geared up about talking politics or serious stuff like the latest things I've read, but I'm watching old X-files episodes right now ...

Okay, the trip to Dublin is booked and ready to go !
L-sama and I ended up deciding to stay in Dublin the whole time, since we'll only be there for nine days. I'm sure we'll find stuff to keep ourselves occupied, and that allowed us to choose a slightly more expensive hotel and closer to the city center. It's in Harcourt St, very close to St Stephen's Green and Camden Street, and it's actually the former house of George Bernard Shaw. It's a beautiful Georgian building, and we're close enough to the city center that we'll be able to walk everywhere, and we'll take buses if we need to go on an excursion or anything.
So I can't wait to be in August and fly there. I've been wanting to go back ever since I went there years ago. Now I just need a new digital camera.

Also, my boss asked me to give a French as a Foreign Language lesson on an intensive program. I'm really nervous and excited at the same time, it's my first time teaching my mothertongue as a foreign language !

| Aaaah, France, kingdom of strikes ... |
| Public |
|
Oh, the joys of explaining the whys and wherefors of the university teachers strike to me American and British co-workers ...
They were really puzzled about it, because this is motsly about University becoming independent entities and being free to look for private funding. Of courser, they did not see this as a bad thing, given how universities function in the States, so I guess it would be good to explain it a bit.
Universities do not select at the entrance in France. the only thing you need to have is your baccalauréat, the paper that says you graduated high school, or an equivalence. It is also exceptionally cheap. I have calculated that between administrative fees, books and transportations, it probably comes to less that 1,500 euros a year, and people with low income get help. The point is, this allows everyone to go into universities. The problems of what goes on while you're there is a different one altogether and not the one I wish to discuss here.
We have several types of teachers in universities. Maîtres de conférences are usually at the bottom and simply give classes and write maybe a few articles. Enseignants-chercheurs are also researchers, and have a set time aside to conduct research apart from simply teaching. What happened was the the decree planned to modify the status of the enseignants-chercheurs, because apparently they only have an obliation of 192 hours of teaching hours. As it turns out, many of those teachers give more teaching hours than that, but the decree was planning on making them do more stuff because obviously, this is not enough, not taking into account that a lot of time is given to research.
There was alo a demonstration of disdain from president Sarkozy, who said in a public address that Fre nch researchers were not good, and not independently assessed. Both things which are blatantly not true, as France has scientists published internationally and also several independent state-funded control groups, as well as a very efficient peer group review system.
French universities are not against private money. If anything, they'd rather welcome it, seeing that the budet for a student is about twice lower than that for a grade schooler, which is completely irrational. What they want is to remind majorly state-funded so as not to become dependent on the donations of private institutions that could then try to influence either the teachin or the functioning to a major degree. French enseignants-chercheurs also resent the implication that they're basically useless.
This is one of the main reasons for the strikes, although by no means the only one. I hope it's clear, and if it's not, I have a few links, but they're probably all in French. End of lesson, Class dismissed !

Went to the Bénabar Concert in my town on Thursday and it was great ! I was only five meters from the stage, wiht a really ood view, and he's really good.
Of course, now, I'm knackered, but it's a happy-knackered state, so it's all good.
Seeing the endocrinologist on Monday, we'll see what happens then. Also, it's raining today, so I don't want to go out and run errands. But I have to. Shoes need new soles. Brownies require butter. And stuff like that.
Also, I wish I had a camera so I could bury you all in pictures like Su-sweetie, but I guess it'll have to wait until my birthday.
Also, hopefully going back to Ireland this summer ! Yay !
